Avalanche safety training

Mountain guides from the Méribel office are offering introductory courses in snow safety. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the snowpack, avalanche mechanisms and rescue techniques.

These courses are aimed at anyone who enjoys the mountains in winter: off-piste skiing, ski touring, snowboarding or snowshoeing.

Two options are available:

- A 2-hour avalanche rescue course :

Discovery of the safety pack (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe), rescue alert and practice with a real avalanche victim search exercise.

Group session, for groups of 3 or more people, max. 6.

- A full day of snow-covered mountain risk management :

Immerse yourself in the 3 Vallées ski area and progress towards greater autonomy. On the programme: group management off-piste, emergency alert, real-life situations, cutting through the snow cover and analysing avalanche mechanisms.

Private hire, at the usual Méribel guide day rate. Groups of 6 people max.

FAQ

Learn how to assess the risks, understand the snowpack and react in the event of an avalanche. This training will increase your autonomy and safety when you go off-piste or hiking.

All winter mountain sports enthusiasts: ski tourers, freeriders, snowboarders or snowshoe trekkers. The courses are open to beginners as well as experienced skiers and snowboarders.

Two formats: a quick 2-hour introduction focusing on the safety pack and search techniques, or a more in-depth full day with snowpack analysis, group management and realistic exercises.

The essential equipment is the safety pack: avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. We can provide this, but it's best to learn with your own equipment so you can use it effectively.

The courses are held in and around the Méribel ski area, in sectors that are ideally suited to practising search and analysis techniques in real-life conditions.

Méribel's mountain guides are experts in risk management in snow-covered mountains, off-piste skiing and ski touring. Their teaching methods and knowledge of the terrain ensure that their training is practical, useful and directly applicable to your outings.
